Two area women die in Wednesday car-vs.-semi crash

Two women died Wednesday as the result of a motor vehicle-vs.-semi crash in Pipestone County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country operated by Patricia Ann Struiksma, 71, of Chandler was westbound on 21^st Street in wet conditions while a 2019 International semi operated by Chad Jonathan Walters, 53, of Pipestone was northbound on U.S. 75 when the vehicles collided in the intersection. The crash took place at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday in Pipestone County's Elmer Township.

Struiksma died at the scene of the crash, and her passenger — Donna Jean Vanthof, 69, of Leota, also died after being taken to Pipestone County Medical Center. Walters was uninjured.

The Pipestone County Sheriff's Office, Edgerton Fire Department and Ambulance and the Pipestone Ambulance assisted at the scene.
