The Worthington Trojans volleyball team dominated host Fairmont on Thursday night in 3-0 victory. Game scores were 25-13, 25-20, 25-8.
Madison Beckmann had a strong all-around match with 11 kills, five digs, two blocks and two ace serves. Addison Gerber passed for 28 set assists and had five ace serves. Jayden Spartz contributed eight kills and five digs and Janessa Hamann and Saige Scheepstra each had six kills for the Trojans, now 3-3 overall.
In another high school volleyball match, Adrian-Ellsworth improved to 12-1 on the season by blanking Luverne 3-0 in Ellsworth. Game scores were 25-19, 25-18, 25-12.

In high school girls soccer, Worthington picked up its second victory of the season by blanking St. James/Windom/Madelia at home 4-0. Cristy Banagas scored a pair of goals and Emily Soto and Sara Esquivel had one each, while Karen Hser had a shutout at goalkeeper. Coach Anne Greenway said WHS played a great game for start to finish and noted it was the season’s best game in terms of connecting with one another and finding passing opportunities.
In boys soccer, the Trojans blanked St. James/Windom/Madelia 8-0 on the road as seven different players scored. Dave Gonzalez had two goals. Getting one each were Maqui Sandoval, Jose Chavez, Jonathan Banegas, Daniel Garcia, Andy Guzman and Alan Tovar. WHS is now 7-1 and hosts Academy of Holy Angels tonight.

It was Windom Area placing first of nine boys cross country teams at the annual Turkey Trot on Thursday at the former Prairie View Golf Links property in Worthington. The Eagles had 55 points; third-place Worthington had 68. The Trojans’ Fanuel Wolday finished first individually with a time of 15:28.93. Teammates Asrat Bonnett and Austin Kinser cracked the top 10 in seventh and eighth, respectively. Isaac Kinser was next for WHS in 19th.
In the girls meet at Prairie View, Murray County Central/Fulda placed first with 65 total points. Worthington, meanwhile, was seventh of nine teams at 182. Madison Sieve was the highest placer for the Trojans in 23rd; Kenadie Thiner was right behind her in 26th.

In girls tennis Thursday afternoon, it was St. James over WHS 7-0. Each of the matches was decided in straight sets.
