Trojans tennis team defeated 5-2 by Redwood Valley

The Worthington High School boys tennis team was defeated by Redwood Valley 5-2 in a match Tuesday afternoon at the Worthington Middle School courts.


The Trojans' two match victories both came in singles competition At No. 3 singles, Worthington's Dylan Dykstra picked up a win by scores of 6-4 6-4. At No. 4 singles, it was the Trojans' Bennett Oberloh coming away with a 6-1 6-1 triumph.


While Redwood Valley won each of the three doubles matches in straight sets, WHS did take the other two singles matches to the limit. Ian Barber was edged at No. 1 singles 6-4 4-6 6-4, and Evan Hansberger was defeated by scores of 6-3 4-6 6-2.

The Minnesota West Lady Jays' softball team has now completed its 2024 season after its scheduled Wednesday doubleheader at Rochester was cancelled. The Lady Jays finished the spring with an overall record of 3-10.

Worthington Youth Football equipment fitting and player registrations will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. May 20 at the JBS Field House. Fee is $210 and will need to be paid online. If you need to purchase a game jersey, it’s an additional $35. 


This is a tackle football league that practices twice a week in the evenings starting in early August and runs through mid-October. Games are played Saturday mornings or early afternoons.

Dragon Basketball Workouts for boys and girls entering second through 12th grades are scheduled to begin on May 30 and continue through July 29.


There will be 10 workout dates, and cost is $100 per athlete. Boys and girls in second through sixth grades will work out from 10:45 a.m. to noon, and boys and girls in grades seven through 12 will work out from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Workout days are set for May 30; June 6, 13, 20 and 27; and July 1, 11, 18, 25 and 29.


Two Augustana University men's basketball players will be at the Adrian High School hum to run basketball workouts this summer. To register, text Curt Schilling at (712) 461-0671. Payments can be made to "Dragon Basketball Association."

The Junior Jays 12s volleyball team were in Minneapolis this past weekend for a two-day event.  The Worthington-based team captured first place in the Silver 13s division.

Jackson County Central graduates and Augustana University teammates Logan Butzon and Caleb Vancura competed in the U20 U.S. Open freestyle wrestling tournament last weekend.


Both wrestlers won matches at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Butzon won his first two matches at 74 kilograms but then lost his next two. Vancura lost his first match at 130 kilograms before winning his next two and then taking a second loss.
