Trojans roll to 15-1 boys soccer victory over Fairmont

The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team dominated from start to finish Tuesday night, earning a 15-1 victory over visiting Fairmont.

Isaac Perez led the scoring outburst with five goals and teammate Carlos Castillo contributed four of his own. WHS led 7-1 at the half and continued to add onto its advantage in the second half in improving to 6-0-2 on the season. Fairmont is 0-3-3.

Castillo scored with about 36 minutes remaining in the opening half for a 1-0 WHS edge, and Perez made it 2-0 with about 30 minutes left before intermission. The match remained at 2-0 for a while before a barrage of goals late in the half. Castillo made it 3-0 with 12:13 to go before halftime, and Juan Sandoval scored less than two minutes later for a 4-0 lead. Fairmont got on the board with 8:35 left, but Daniel Garcia, Perez and Christian Munoz all picked up goals before the half ended for Worthington.

Perez then went on to score the first three Worthington goals of the second half – with the second one coming after some fancy footwork – to make it a 10-1 match. Sandoval added a second goal, Castillo poked into two more and Garcia scored a second time.

Next up for Worthington is another home match at 7 p.m. Thursday against Waseca.
