Minnesota West’s wrestling team was defeated by Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday, 54-0, and by Ridgewater, 36-16.
Bluejays head coach Brayden Curry said the scoreboard in the SMSU dual did not reflect the effort given by the team, adding that coaches saw a different level of intensity, effort and fight from the guys that they had not observed previously. At 285 pounds, Brody Knapp got down early in the match, Curry said, but battled back and came within one point of defeating his opponent.
Against Ridgewater, meanwhile, Minnesota West won a pair of matches by forfeit and also got a solid won from Joseph Kallevig at 165.
Earlier last week, the Bluejays lost a dual at North Iowa Area Community College, 43-9. Ethan Meyer won by fall in the first period at 133 for Minnesota West, and Daunte Hill won by decision at 174.
The Bluejays will host their lone home dual of the year on Friday against Iowa Lakes Community College. It will be Youth Wrestling Appreciation Night.
