The Worthington Trojans boys tennis team finally competed in their first match of the season Tuesday afternoon, as they took on visiting New Ulm. WHS captured the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, but wound up falling to the Eagles 4-3.
Alec Langerud, playing at No .1 singles, outlasted New Ulm’s Ben Brownfield by scores of 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Ian Barber won at No. 2 singles for the Trojans, defeating the Eagles’ Thomas Schwartz 6-3, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Worthington’s Ezra Bonnett won 7-6 6-2 over Rylan O’Neil.
At No. 4 singles, the Trojans’ David Sternke was defeated in three sets, as was the Worthington No. 2 doubles team of Levi Kuhl and Jacob Ahrenstorff. Worthington’s No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles teams fell in straight sets.
WHS is scheduled to play at Pipestone Area today.
