Updated: 20 hours ago

The Worthington Trojans boys golf team came away with a dual meet victory over Pipestone Area Thursday afternoon at GREATLife Worthington. The Trojans finished with 180 strokes as a team, while the Arrows had 182.

Pipestone Area's Matt Debates was the day's medalist with a round of 42, but both Cameron Krommendyk and Hunter Heitkamp of WHS were right behind him with 43s. Rounding out the Trojans' team total were Gerrit Larson and Blake Vosburgh, who each carded 48s. Also competing Thursday for Worthington were Brody Pederson, who shot a 49, and Tyson Petersen, who came in at 53.

The WHS girls golf team, meanwhile, also faced Pipestone Area on Thursday, but it wasn't much of a match. The Arrows' Vivian Brockberg finished the day at 12-over-par, the lowest score of all competitors, but she was the lone PA golfer to play in the meet.

Claire Meyer was the lowest-scoring Trojan golfer at 13-over-par, while Ellie Drost and Ava Schutz were both at 17-over and Ashtyn Krohn at 18-over. Also playing were Giselle Deleon, plus-21, and Greta Mahlberg, plus-23.

The Trojans' girls golf team had been scheduled to play a meet against multiple schools today at GREATLife Worthington, but it has now been canceled. They'll play at a Big South event on Monday in New Ulm, while the boys will be at a Big South event in Waseca the same day.

Worthington High School's girls softball team kept things close early against visiting New Ulm on Thursday, but the Eagles ended up dominating the final three innings to come away with a 22-5 five-inning victory over the Trojans at the Minnesota West softball field.

New Ulm opened with five runs in the top of the first inning, and WHS quickly answered with two runs. The Eagles added three in the second, and the Trojans came back with three runs of their own — with two coming on an Anna Gordon triple — to make it an 8-5 game.

New Ulm went on to score four runs in the third, seven more in the fourth and three in the fifth, finishing with 22 runs on 22 hits. The Trojans got six hits Thursday; Breeta Johnson had a pair of singles and Victoria Bush contributed a triple.

WHS, now 0-5, plays Waseca in a home doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon at Minnesota West.

Playing once more at No. 4 singles. he was victorious by a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.  Worthington had a close loss at No. 2 singles, as Moises Segura was defeated 6-4 7-5, and Colton Olmanson and Cristian Miranda were edged 7-6 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
