The Globe receives multiple awards at MNA convention

The Globe of Worthington was recognized with 24 awards during the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest during the association's convention last week in Brooklyn Park.


The Globe competed in most categories against other weeklies with circulations between 3,001 and 7,000. First-place honors were awarded for general reporting and advertising excellence, and Emma McNamee was recognized as David Pyle New Journalist of the Year. Tim Middagh was honored for Press Photographer's Portfolio, and The Globe also earned top awards for best use of multimedia and best use of social media.


Also winning first-place awards for Kari Lucin and Julie Buntjer for local breaking news coverage and Middagh for sports photo. Other firsts were given for institutional advertisement and self-promotion/house ad.


Lucin earned second place in the social issues story category, as did Buntjer for local breaking news coverage and Scott Mansch for sports story. Second-place recognition also came for self-promotion/house ad, use of color in advertising, best advertisement and best use of video.


The Globe also earned third-place awards in seven categories -- best magazine, hard news, best advertisement, best institutional advertisement, self-promotion/house ad, use of color in advertising and best use of video.
