Street projects to be discussed during council meeting

The Worthington City Council is scheduled to award a pair of contracts for street projects during its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

The council is expected to award contracts for both Second Avenue street reconstruction and Church Avenue pavement reconstruction during Monday's meeting. Bids for both projects were opened March 13, and results will be made available to the public after the council awards the contract to the lowest responsible bidder.

The lowest bid for the Second Avenue street reconstruction work was received from Henning Construction in the amount of $326,894.25. For the Church Avenue pavement reconstruction, it came from Duininck Inc. in the amount of $371,421. Staff is recommending the council award the contract to the low bidder in both cases.

Another engineering item scheduled for Monday's meeting is a public hearing on the planned Third and Fourth Avenue street improvement project. Travis Winter of Bolton & Menk will give a presentation during the hearing. Construction plans and specification were approved during the Feb. 26 council meeting.

Among other agenda items for Monday are consideration of ballfield maintenance agreements with both Minnesota West and District 518, as well as potentially establishing a new hangar lease rate for Worthington Municipal Airport.
