State-qualifying football showdowns set for Friday

Unbeaten and seventh-ranked Hills-Beaver Creek will take on regional rival and 10th-ranked Edgerton Friday in the Section 3 9-Player championship game. Kickoff for the Patriots and Dutchmen will be 2 p.m. at Southwest Minnesota State University. The winner advances to state.

In the 9-player Section 2 championship game Friday, Red Rock Central will face Cedar Mountain at 7 p.m. at Lakeview High School. That winner also goes to state.

Another state berth will be decided Friday in Class 2A, as unbeaten and fourth-ranked Jackson County Central takes on Redwood Valley at 11:30 a.m. in the Section 3AA title game at Southwest Minnesota State University. In Class 3A, Fairmont will shoot for a berth at state Friday night when it takes on Waseca at 7 p.m. at New Ulm in the Section 3AAA title tilt. The Cardinals are ranked ninth in the state; the Bluejays are eighth.

Finally, in class 4A, Marshall will face third-ranked Hutchinson in the Section 2AAAA title game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday in Hutchinson.


In the Sub-section 3A South volleyball final Thursday night in Marshall, it was Russell-Tyler-Ruthton defeating Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 3-0 by game scores of 25-20 25-18 25-18. Redwood Valley beat Windom 3-0 by game scores of 25-20 25-16 25-10 to take the Sub-section 3AA title.


Saturday is the first Stingrays swim meet of the year at the Worthington Area YMCA. There will be no open swim on Saturday. Adult Lap from 8:30 am - 9:30 am will remain as scheduled.
