Sports Briefs for June 24, 2024

A Sibley-Ocheyedan Volleyball Skills Camp is scheduled for July 22 and 23 at Sibley-Ocheyedan High School.

 

Camp times for both days will be from 9 a.m. to noon for high school participants, 1:30 to 3 p.m. for students in grades 6-8 and 3:30 to 5 p.m. for those grades 3-5. The camp will be led by Krista (DeGeest) Nelson, who played for Spencer High School and the University of Northern Iowa, as well as professionally in Europe and South America for the past seven years. She has coached many club teams and has run numerous camps and individual lessons.

A football camp designed for players who want to focus on position skills. technique development, speed and agility training and offense/defense drills will take place July 28 and 29 in Adrian.

 

The camp is Intended for fourth grade through high school athletes. The camp will be from 1 to 5 p.m. July 28 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 29 at Sixth Street and Indiana Avenue, Adrian. The cost is $150 for both days; lunch included.

Recreational and serious cyclists alike are invited to take part in the 40th Annual University of Okoboji Cycling Classic Campus Bike Ride this coming Saturday, June 29th.

 

A pancakes and sausage breakfast served by Milford Boy Scout Troop 170 begins serving at 7 am at the registration site, which is Florence Park in Milford. Cost of the breakfast supports the local youngsters.

 

The bicycle ride will start at 9 a.m. from Florence Park. Participants may enjoy a 25-, 50- or 100-mile bike ride through the Iowa Great Lakes area.

 

Day of registration and pre-registration check-in will be at Florence Park from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday. The $35 registration fee includes a classic T-shirt and a barbecue, beverages & music in Florence Park at 2 p.m. Proceeds from the ride go to an area non-profit that supports many area projects including area fire and police departments, the Dickinson County Trails and other area projects.

 

Online registration closes at 4 p.m. Thursday and can be done at okobojichamber.com. In-person registration will then be available Friday evening and Saturday morning at Florence Park; cash only. Packet pick-up is at the same times as in-person registration.

 

The Quarter Century (or 25-mile ride) is around West Okoboji, the Half Century (50 miles) is around West Okoboji, Spirit Lake and East Okoboji and the Century (100-mile ride) is the around Iowa Great Lakes and the University of Okoboji campus.
