Sports briefs for July 17, 2024

An American Legion Baseball Sub State Tournament will be played in Luverne starting on Thursday. 

 

The tourney will begin with an 11 a.m. matchup between Sleepy Eye and Windom, which will be followed by a 2 p.m. game between St. James and Minneota. The winners of those contests will play at 5 p.m. Friday.

 

A game between Springfield in Mankato is slated for 5 p.m. Thursday, and that matchup will be followed by an 8 p.m. meeting between Wabasso and Luverne. The victors of those two games will face off at 8 p.m. Friday. The two teams that remain unbeaten through Friday's games will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday.

 

Play in the double-elimination tournament continues on July 26 and 27.

 

Meanwhile, a junior American Legion baseball substate tournament will begin on Sunday, also in Luverne. Luverne will have a first-round bye, while R-T-R will meet Adrian at 1 p.m. Sunday. That victor meets Luverne at 4 p.m. Sunday.

A Twins Community Fund Youth Baseball Clinic is scheduled for Saturday, July 27.

 

The free clinic will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at Laker Field, 601 Chapman Ave., Heron Lake. The camp is open to anyone between the ages of 6-12 and is being hosted by the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes high school baseball team.
