September weather is warmer, drier than average

Worthington weather in September featured high temperatures that were above normal as well as much drier than average conditions, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The normal average high temperature in Worthington in September is 72.9 degrees and the average low is 49.1 degrees, according to National Weather Service statistics. This year, those corresponding numbers are 75.9 degrees and 49.2 degrees, respectively, meaning that September highs were 3 degrees above average and the month’s lows .1 degree above normal.

September’s highest temperature in Worthington was 96 degrees, which was reported on the 21st. That turned out to be the only 90-degree reading of the month. The coolest reading of the month in Worthington was 30 degrees, which was recorded on Sept. 28. There was also a low of 31 degrees the 29th.

In terms of precipitation, Worthington had a measured total of .67 inches of moisture during the month of September. Comparatively, National Weather Service statistics indicate that the average rainfall for the month of September is 3.21 inches. A total of .38 inches of rain on Sept. 10 was the highest single-day precipitation total.

For the first nine months of 2022, Worthington’s average high is 58.3 degrees and the average low is 36.1. Historical averages for January through September are 58.4 and 37.7 degrees. The total precipitation thus far has been 24.38 inches; the historical norm is 25.99 inches.
