Scam featuring person offering to fix Dish Network equipment is reported
The Murray County Sheriff's Office is reporting that a new scam is hitting the area.
A Murray County resident recently received a phone call from a person named "David" who had a thick accent. This person contacted the resident with an offer to fix their Dish Network equipment. The scammer wanted $200 and was asking for the victim's credit card information.
The phone calls came from two different numbers — (636) 534-1464 and (802) 216-0163 — and the Murray County Sheriff's Office discovered that both of these numbers were known to be associated with scams.
If you receive a call from anyone offering you services — especially when the services are working properly or if repairs were never requested — use extreme caution. Hanging up on these calls is always an appropriate response.
