It was a difficult day in both baseball and softball for Worthington High School on Thursday as the Trojans were defeated by St. Peter in both sports.
In baseball, the visiting Saints connected for 15 hits on their way to an 11-0, five-inning shutout over WHS. The Saints scored twice in the first inning and added two more in the second, one in the third and three in both the fourth and fifth innings.
The Trojans had three hits in the game. Max Ostrem had a double, Wyatt Peterson had a single and stolen base and Chase Byrne also had a single. Byrne tossed the first four innings on the mound for Worthington, and Dalton Larson pitched the fifth.
WHS is now 2-7 on the season. It's next scheduled to play on Thursday, May 8 at New Ulm; they'll first finish a game from last month that was suspended by rain and then face each other once more.
In softball, the Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on Thursday, but the Saints responded by scoring once in the second, three times in the third and four times in the fourth on their way to a 9-3 victory.
Madi Polz had a single and double in the game for Worthington, Hannah McNab connected for a triple and two RBIs and Victoria Bush had a single. The Trojans, who played without Bailey Ponto for an undisclosed medical reason, slipped to 5-5 on the season.
Next up for the WHS softball team is a game Saturday afternoon in Albert Lea.
