Voters in the Round Lake-Brewster School District will head to the polls Feb. 14 to decide the fate of a $30.48 million dollar proposal for a construction project at the school in Brewster.
Cracks were discovered along with some crumbling in a wall of the 109-year-old building in fall 2021. Some work has since been done to reinforce the wall, but school officials say that’s strictly a short-term fix. They also say increased enrollment is making for space issues.
Plans call for the portion of the facility built in 1914 to be torn down, along with a gymnasium constructed in 1938. Those would be replaced with 20 new classrooms, a new gym, new kitchen and a shop facility, along with a new area for dropping off and picking up students. The project is scheduled for completion by August 2025, should the bond issue be approved.
A similar issue in August of this past year fell short of approval by just seven votes.
