Radio Works grateful for help with annual Beach Bash

Updated: Aug 9

This past month Radio Works has hosted the Annual Beach Bash Celebration on July 3rd. This event has helped raise over $57,000 for the Lake Okabena Improvement Assocation, additionally dollars have been raised by St. Mary's and Worthington Christian Schools with kids' activities. This event has been a huge support to the Beach Nook with hundreds getting served that night.

Radio Works puts forth several thousand dollars each year (some years with assistance of sponsors and some without) to make it all of this happen and for the community to enjoy.

Like with many events, community groups that organize them evolve with their efforts and become more efficient with time. However, with time, things have significantly changed as less volunteers have been available, and increased costs to put on events like this is sometimes daunting. What most don't know is how they all continue to happen, and one reason is why I want to be able to recognize the time and effort that this event (and many others) receives from the City of Worthington's Public Works Department. This department's efforts to assist in keeping these festivals going to help make our community a great place to enjoy, live and work in is second to none.

The city has now purchased the wonderful stage that our local festivals utilize for their entertainment a cost savings to host events. In recent years, the Public Works staff have been responsible for setup and takedown of the stage. With the Beach Bash event, they also help prepare the park for the large crowds -- including moving of the tables around the park prior to the event and putting it all back together at the end of the night so that, on the July 4th holiday, it's ready for families to gather and enjoy on the holiday. The assistance and care given by the city staff was AGAIN amazing.

All of this work used to be done by volunteers who are just not as available as they used to be and frankly was just too taxing. The volunteers that are committed can now concentrate in the details of putting on the event and not worry about those larger details that the Public Works Department does for us now.

I firsthand have worked with our city staff for many years in different capacities and events, and my hope is that ALL can appreciate all the work they put in to get it all done with events like these and the many other services we enjoy.  Without them, some of our events very well may go away in time.

Thank you, Worthington Public Works Department and the City of Worthington, for what you do for our Beach Bash and what you do for so many groups and events all year long.  We will look forward to what I'm sure to another great #10 in 2025!

Sincerely
