Among the items on the agenda for tonight's Worthington City Council meeting is consideration of a purchase agreement for the acquisition of the former Wells Fargo building at 1010 Second Ave.

Terms of the agreement include an acquisition price of $800,000, earnest money of $40,000, inspection and due diligence until Dec. 3 and a closing date of no later than Dec. 11. There's also a deed restriction that the property shall not be used as a “financial services business” for five years, and the City of Worthington has exclusive dealings throughout the inspection period. The building and property will be sold in “as is” condition.

Also Monday, Nate Grimmius is slated to take the oath of office as Worthington's director of public safety/police chief. Grimmius has been selected for the post following the retirement of Troy Appel.

Grimmius began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer with Worthington in 2004. Over the years, Grimmius has served the Worthington Police Department as a detective, detective sergeant and deputy chief. He spent a number of years as an agent with the Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force as well as serving as the commander of the task force. In addition, he was an instructor in Minnesota West’s law enforcement program for four years.

Additionally, council members will consider an agreement on a long-term financial management plan with Ehlers Public Finance Advisors. The plan consists of an adjusting 10-year operating budget and capital improvement plan. It’s used to guide the city’s financial future in the determination for the funding of capital improvements and operating needs.
