Prairie Elementary second-grader is coloring contest winner

Shameri Drah, a second-grade student at Prairie Elementary in Worthington, has been named one of the winners of the Wilmont VFW Auxiliary “Illustrating America Coloring Contest.”

The announcement was made at Prairie Elementary on Tuesday morning. Shameri painted an American flag for Veteran’s Day last fall that was submitted and chosen by the Wilmont VFW Auxiliary as one of their local winners. The winners from the local contest then advanced to the regional level, and Shameri’s painting won for her age group. It’s now being considered at the Minnesota VFW Auxiliary level; a winner will be announced sometime in June.

Shameri was presented with a certificate and cash award by Wilmont VFW Auxiliary members Roxanne Kremer and Carolyn Penning.
