The Minnesota West wrestling team will be on their home mats for the first time this season on Wednesday, when the Bluejays will host both Ellsworth Community College and Rochester Community and Technical College.
The Bluejays are 0-2 in duals this season. Their most recent action came on Friday night, when the Minnesota West Bluejay wrestlers traveled to Storm Lake, Iowa to take on the Beavers of Buena Vista University.
Prior to the start of the official dual, Billey Mensah — a Minnesota West freshman from Arlington, Texas — won by fall early in the first period of his exhibition match.
Varsity action in the dual started at 125 pounds, with Austin Hansen — a freshman from Estherville, Iowa — defeated by technical fall in the third period. The Bluejays were open at 133, and the Beavers controlled much of the dual up to 174 pounds, where Luverne freshman Sam Rock got the Bluejays on the board with a major decision. At 184, Aidyn Wolfe — a freshman from Riverview, Florida — also won by major decision. The Bluejays ultimately fell to the Beavers 42-8.
Action at the Center for Health and Wellness is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday. After that, the Bluejay wrestlers are scheduled to be idle until Dec. 4, when they'll host a home dual against North Iowa Area Community College.
