Minnesota West men's basketball now 8-2 after win

The Minnesota West men's basketball team outscored the Dakota State junior varsity 41-24 in the second half and moved to 8-2 on the season with an 80-66 victory Monday night at the Center for Health & Wellness.


The Bluejays, who made exactly 50% of the shots from the field, were paced by Zackery Rigg, who scored 19 points. Three other Minnesota West players scored in double figures, with Karasharo Ojullo netting 16 points, Jiegkoy Wiel 11 and Zach Hayenga 10. Dylan Marshall added eight points along with game highs of eight rebounds and four assists.


In women's basketball Monday night, the Lady Jays lost their second straight as they were beaten by the Dakota State JV 64-60. Minnesota West holds the No. 4 ranking in the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Poll that was released Monday. The top three teams are all from Region 13: Rochester is ranked at No. 1, followed by Anoka Ramsey, Northland and Minnesota West.


The Bluejay men next play this weekend as they head to Minnesota North College-Hibbing on Friday and Rainy River on Saturday. The women, meanwhile, are idle until next Wednesday the 11th, when they host Des Moines Area Community College.
