A pair of undefeated southwest Minnesota high school 9-man football teams will meet tonight in a state tournament quarterfinal matchup.

Hills-Beaver Creek, the No.1-ranked team in the state and last year's 9-man football runner-up, will face off against unbeaten and fourth-ranked Red Rock Central. Both teams have unblemished records of 10-0.

The Patriots have steamrolled through the fall by routing every opponent to date. Their closest game was a 26-point triumph -- a 40-14 victory last weekend over Edgerton in the Section 3 finals. Hills-Beaver Creek is averaging 52.3 points per game on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, the Patriots are surrendering just 8.7 points per outing.

Red Rock Central enters the state football tourney after narrowly defeating Wabasso 26-21 in the Section 2 finals. The Falcons have one other five-point win this season — a 12-7 triumph over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Sept. 19 in Lamberton. RRC is scoring an average of 41.2 points per game this season and giving up 15.0.

Game time for the Patriots-Falcons clash is 7 p.m. tonight at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. The winner will meet either Hillcrest Lutheran Academy or Mabel-Canton in the semifinals.
