Minnesota West cruises to 3-0 volleyball triumph on home court

The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team improved to 4-1 in Minnesota College Athletic Conference play and 15-7 overall Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep of Western Technical College at the Center for Health and Wellness in Worthington. Game scores were 25-16, 25-14, 25-14.

The Lady Jays set the tone for the night almost immediately. After Western Tech scored the initial point of the match, Minnesota West tallied five straight and eventually went on to build a 17-8 advantage. The Cavaliers closed to within six of the lead, but the home team regained the momentum and rebuilt its edge to nine in closing out the game-one win.

In game two, Western Tech led 4-3 in the early stages, but Minnesota West went on to reel off eight straight points and wasn't threatened from there. Sophomore Ellyanna Sand, who unofficially led the Lady Jays in kills on the night with six, concluded the game with back-to-back successful attacks.

Minnesota West trailed the Cavaliers 9-6 in game three, but went on to control things from there. Coach Britney McNab was able to give playing time to her roster not just in the final game, but throughout the night. Official stats for the match weren't immediately available.

The Lady Jays have a big weekend coming up with two road conference matches. They meet Minnesota State-Fergus Falls — which is also 4-1 in MCAC play — on Friday night and then travel to St. Cloud State on Saturday.
