MCC board hosting meeting on 4-day week option

The Murray County Central School District Board of Education will host a community informational meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the high school auditorium to provide information on a potential shift to a four-day school week.

A letter on the matter from MCC Superintendent Joe Meyer appears on the school district website. He writes that as part of the district's ongoing efforts to enhance educational outcomes, reduce ever-increasing operational costs and adapt to the evolving needs of students, families and staff, the possibility of moving to a four-day school week at the beginning of 2025-26 is being explored.

Meyer adds that the school board has not made any final decisions but is gathering information and feedback to make an informed educated decision. He said the change "is being considered for several reasons including cost efficiency, improved student/staff well-being, more consistent scheduling, increased teacher training, planning time, and increased student attendance to name a few."

In addition to Wednesday's meeting, an information page has been set up on the district website to help answer as many questions as possible at this time regarding what a potential day, week and year would look like along with other pros/cons of this potential change.
