May weather warmer, wetter than normal

Worthington weather in May featured high temperatures that were slightly warmer than normal, lows also warmer than what’s typical and wetter than average conditions, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.


The normal average high temperature in Worthington in May is 68.0 degrees and the average low is 45.8 degrees, according to National Weather Service statistics. This year, those corresponding numbers are 68.3 degrees and 46.4 degrees, respectively, meaning that May highs were .3 degrees warmer than average and the month’s lows .6 degrees above normal.


May’s highest temperature in Worthington was 93 degrees, which was reported on the 13th, and next warmest was a high of 92 degrees reported on the 29th. The coldest reading of the month in Worthington was recorded on May 4th at 32 degrees, and there was a low of 34 degrees on May 22.


In terms of precipitation, Worthington had a measured total of 6.0 inches of moisture during the month of May. Comparatively, National Weather Service statistics indicate that the average rainfall for the month of May is 4.09 inches. A total of 1.33 inches of rain was measured on May 12; 1.10 inches was recorded on May 29 and 1.03 inches on May 30.


For the first five months of 2022, Worthington’s average high is 41.5 degrees and the average low is 19.2. Historical averages for January through May are 42.8 and 23.1 degrees. The total precipitation thus far has been 9.83 inches; the historical norm is 10.15 inches.
