May weather slightly warmer than average; it was also drier

Temperatures for the month of May were a bit warmer than normal and precipitation for the month was less than half the average, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.


Worthington had an average high of 71.1 degrees this past month, which is 3.1 warmer than the typical May high of 68.0. A high of 92 degrees was recorded on May 27th; it was 90 on the 28th and 89 on the 16th.


The average low in Worthington in April was 46.8 degrees, or exactly one degree warmer than the average. The lowest temperature reading was 30 degrees, which came on May 6th. It was 32 on May 3rd and 33 on both the 1st and 2nd.


As for rain, Worthington recorded 1.79 inches of precipitation during the just-completed month, compared to the normal amount of 4.09 inches. More than half of that moisture, .9 inches, was measured on May 18th. There were also .78 inches of rain recorded on May 23rd.


For the first five months of the year, Worthington has an average high of 49.4 degrees and average low of 25.2. By comparison, average highs and lows for the first five months of the year are 42.5 and 22.9 degrees, respectively. Worthington has received 7.9 inches of precipitation in January through May, compared to the normal amount of 10.15 inches. The normal amount of rain for Worthington in June is 5.24 inches.
