Matching fund now in place for NCHS fundraising campaign

A matching fund has been established for the Nobles County Historical Society’s Make History at the Armory Capital Campaign. Donations made to the campaign in the weeks to come have the potential of being doubled.

The Make History at the Armory Capital Campaign is an ongoing effort to raise money to transform the 100-year-old Worthington Armory Building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, into a new Nobles County Heritage Center. The project provides adequate space for the preservation, exhibition and interpretation of all of Nobles County’s historic treasures, while saving and preserving the Armory building itself and giving it a new and noble purpose.

The Armory project became a reality thanks to an initial $1 million donation from Bob and Pat Ludlow, with matching contributions from the city of Worthington and Nobles County, for a total of $2 million to begin the project. An additional $1.5 million has been raised so far through the campaign, but more funding is needed to bring the undertaking to its full potential. Through the Legacy Partners of Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation with support of Greg and Cindy DeGroot, up to $100,000 in donations to the Make History at the Armory campaign will be matched, giving the historical society the potential of raising an additional $200,000.

“We are thrilled that a Legacy Partner supporter of Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation has seen the potential of this project and chosen to help us raise more funds from the community at large through this matching fund project,” said Art Frame, NCHS Board of Directors president.

Funds raised through this public phase of the campaign will be used to complete the renovation of the upstairs community space, create exhibits that tell the unique stories of Nobles County and establish an endowment to sustain NCHS in its new facility for many years to come. Both NCHS and WRHCF are non-profit organizations, and contributions are tax-deductible.

To access the matching dollars, checks must be made out to Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation. In the memo line, write “NCHS-Armory match.” Donations can be sent to NCHS, P.O. Box 614, Worthington 56187. For more information, contact NCHS at (507) 295-5397.
