Man arrested after reaching speed of 115 mph near Sheldon

A Texas man has been arrested on a felony eluding charge after an incident near Sheldon last week.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gabriel Ibanez, 22, of Elsa, Texas, eluded a trooper while traveling 115 mph in a 65 mph zone, nearly colliding with multiple vehicles. Ibanez was arrested May 20 and charged with eluding, a class “D” felony.

A search of the vehicle turned up two plastic tubes containing marijuana residue. Ibanez was additionally charged with possession of marijuana along with defective tires, no proof of insurance, reckless driving, speeding and no valid driver’s license.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 10.
