The top-seeded Luverne Redbirds will meet the No. 6 seed Jackson Bulls in a best-of-three series starting Wednesday to determine the Region 13C amateur baseball champion.
The No. 2 Fairmont Martins will take on No. 5 Hadley in a best-of-three series that also gets underway Wednesday to determine Region 13C's third-place team. Luverne, Jackson, Fairmont and Hadley have each already qualified for the Minnesota state amateur baseball tournament, which is scheduled to begin Aug. 18.
The Redbirds moved into the Region 13C championship series by capturing a best-of-three playoff against the Buttermakers, two games to none. Luverne took the opener 5-2 on Aug. 2 and completed a sweep with a 13-2 triumph on Monday night.
The Bulls, meanwhile, are in the midst of a surprising postseason run. After dropping the first-game of their three-game series with the Martins, 5-2, on Aug. 2, Jackson edged Fairmont 1-0 last Friday and then defeated the Martins 7-2 on Monday to win the series two games to one.
Luverne will host Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, while Fairmont will host Hadley at 7:30 p.m. that evening. The Bulls will entertain the Redbirds at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while the Buttermakers play visiting Luverne at noon Saturday. Luverne and Fairmont will host game threes, if needed, at noon Sunday.
All four teams will draft two more pitchers from the eight Region 13C teams that were eliminated after the region championship and third-place series conclude.
