Lewis & Clark expansion project should be done by end of 2027

A major regional water project serving northwest Iowa communities is moving closer to completion, but for now, it still has some limitations during peak demand.

The Lewis & Clark Regional Water System says its Phase 3 expansion of the water treatment plant is about halfway finished and is expected to be operational by the end of 2027. Lewis & Clark serves 20 member communities across southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa, and southwest Minnesota.

Executive Director Troy Larson said the project will allow all members to access their full reserved water supply at the same time. He added that it hasn’t created issues so far because not all communities use their full capacity at once, but the expansion will ensure the system can meet demand when it’s needed.
