The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team will play its first home match of the season on Aug. 28.
The Lady Jays -- who open their 2024 schedule on Aug. 14 at Iowa Lakes Community College and then play a pair of matches on Aug. 23 during an MCAC Crossover Event at Anoka-Ramsey Community College -- will compete in their home debut at 7 p.m. on the 28th against Iowa Lakes. Minnesota West will then have five more road matches –- including four during a tournament Aug. 30 and 31 in Sioux City, Iowa –- before returning to the Center for Health & Wellness in Worthington for a matchup against Ridgewater College at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11.
The Lady Jays will enter the coming season following an outstanding 2023 year that had the team finish with a 24-9 record and advance all the way to the Region 13A championship match, falling just one victory short of a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
Back for the team this fall is Ella Hesse, who was named MCAC South Player of the year in 2023 after amassing 435 kills with a .264 hitting efficiency. Hesse also tallied 430 digs and served 23 aces. Among multiple other returnees is Lexi Schreurs, who passed for more than 1,000 assists in her first season with Lady Jays while –- along with Hesse –- earning All Region 13 Volleyball Team recognition.
