Lady Jays volleyball team dominates in home win over Anoka-Ramsey

The Minnesota West Lady Jays dominated their home volleyball match Wednesday against Anoka-Ramsey, as they won 3-0 by scores of 25-9, 25-7, 25-8.
It was a special night for sophomore Kate Slettum, who was recognized before the start of the match for reaching the 1,000 mark in career set assists. Then, with her final ace serve Wednesday — she had seven in all — she became the Lady Jays' all-time leader in that department.
Minnesota West and Anoka-Ramsey were tied 6-6 in game one before the Lady Jays earned 19 of the final 22 points. The home team then ran away with games two and three, with several reserves seeing plentiful time on the floor.
Freshman Ellyanna Sand ended up leading Minnesota West with eight kills, with Sadie Krahling adding seven and Kylee Larsen six. Kaydn Paulson had a team-high 14 digs, with reserve Jacy Jacobson next with eight. Slettum had 15 set assists and Aubrey Weedman 13.
The second-ranked Lady Jays are now 20-2 and play at Rochester on Friday,

The Minnesota West men's soccer team was in action Tuesday night and played to a 2-2 draw at Anoka-Ramsey.
Dario Neves and Paulo Fonte scored for the Bluejays in the first half for a 2-0 edge, but the Golden Rams rallied. Minnesota West, now 1-5-1, completed its September by going 0-4-1 in the month, with all of the matches on the road. The Bluejays will host Riverland next Wednesday.

In girls tennis on Tuesday, host Worthington defeated River Valley Co-op 4-3 for its second team triumph of the season.
The Trojans won at No. 2 singles, No. 4 singles, No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 singles, Kah Blu Moo won by scores of 6-2 6-2, and Madison Poe earned a victory at No. 4 singles 6-0 6-2.
Cassie Schulz and Ashley Esparza picked up a win at No. 1 doubles by scores of 6-3 6-2, and Isabella Poe and Claire Schultz won at No. 3 doubles 6-7 6-1 6-3.
