Lady Jays blank Riverland in women's volleyball

The Minnesota West Lady Jays women’s volleyball team flew past Riverland 3-0 in a Wednesday night match at the Center for Health and Wellness. Game scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-12.


Kiarra Danielson had five kills and went 8-for-9 serving with a pair of ace serves for 14th-ranked Minnesota West, now 12-2 this season. Kat Polzine added four kills and was 12-of-12 serving with three aces. Also contributing were Hattie DeVries with three kills and four blocks, Ella Kamrud with seven kills. Shawn Rogers with nine digs and Lexi Schreurs with 18 set assists.


Next up for the Lady Jays is a 6:30 p.m. home match on Friday against Western Technical College.

The Luverne girls tennis team defeated visiting Worthington 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon.


The best match of the day came at No. 1 singles, where the Cardinals’ Sarah Stegenga outlasted the Trojans’ Hannah McNab in three sets. McNab won the first set 6-2, and Stegenga took the final two 6-1 and 10-8.


Each of the day’s other matches were decided in straight sets.
