JCC takes fourth in state team wrestling tournament

Jackson County Central placed fourth Thursday in team competition in the Minnesota Class A Wrestling Tournament in St. Paul.

 

The Huskies, who were seeded fifth, edged No. 4 Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area 36-33 in their first match of the day to advance to the semifinals. That put JCC up against No. 1 Chatfield, which won that match over the Huskies 49-12. Then, in the third-place match, No. 3 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrose rallied to eke past JCC 36-34.

 

The Huskies finished their season at 21-5. The individual state wrestling tournament will take place Friday and Saturday.

Desta Hoogendorn and Aubrey Metzger of Central Lyon have both been named to the All-Siouxland Conference Girls Basketball First Team. Among the others chosen was Annie Metzger of West Lyon.


Third-team picks for the team included Danika Hoogendoorn of Central Lyon, Evy Knoblock of West Lyon and Ava Packebush of Okoboji. Among the honorable mention choices were Peyton Schmitz of Okoboji, Taya Sudbeck of Sheldon and Kyndra Gramstad of West Lyon.


For the Siouxland Conference Boys Basketball First Team, Trevor Ciesielski and Carson Hoogeveen of West Lyon were among those picked, as was Reese Vander Zee of Central Lyon. Easton Jacobson of West Lyon made the second team. Third-teamers include Jorden Meyer of West Lyon and Ephraim Hoefert of Central Lyon, while among the honorable mentions were Matt Elbert of Central Lyon, Eli Graves of Okoboji, Ryan Vollink of Sheldon, Sam Schnepf of Sibley-Ocheyedan and Bryson Childress of West Lyon.

Drew Denekas of George-Little Rock has been named to the All-War Eagle Conference Boys Basketball First Team. Among those chosen for the second team were George-Little Rock’s Noah Terhark and Harris-Lake Park’s Lucs Ahrestorff. Honorable mention picks included Charlie Hamilton of George-Little Rock, Caleb Hemphill of Harris-Lake Park and Lawton Schiphoff of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.

Junior Jays volleyball has announced multiple tournaments in April.

 

There will be a Junior Jays 12s Tournament on April 6, and a 14s Tournament on April 7. A Junior Jays 10s Tournament is set for April 13. A Junior Jays 16s Tournament will be April 20, and a 18s Tournament on April 21. The events will be in the gym at Minnesota West.
