Nathan Peterson of Jackson has announced his candidacy for the Minnesota Senate in District 21 following Sen. Bill Weber’s decision not to seek re-election.
A lifelong Jackson County resident, Peterson currently serves on the Jackson City Council, where he has represented the community for six years. During his tenure, he has focused on government accountability, protecting taxpayers, and supporting working families and local communities, according to a press release announcing his candidacy.
As a city council member, Peterson helped secure funding to keep the Little Huskies Day Care Center open for working parents, supported small businesses recovering from flood damage, worked to maintain access to the community swimming pool, and advocated for the creation of an ambulance advisory board to ensure reliable emergency services and strong oversight. Peterson says his record reflects a commitment to fiscal responsibility, local control and practical solutions — not
government overreach.
Peterson adds that he has pledged a zero-tolerance approach to fraud in all government programs, emphasizing that taxpayer dollars must be protected and used only for their intended purposes. He supports strong oversight and accountability to ensure public funds serve those who truly need them — not waste, fraud, abuse or political favoritism.
Peterson has a long history of service in Jackson County. He has served on the Jackson County Fair Board, currently serves as chair of the Jackson County Republicans, previously served as a congressional deputy chair for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District GOP, volunteers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Reserves and is a retired firefighter.
Peterson is a graduate of Mountain Lake High School. After graduation, he worked on his family’s farm before building a career as a small business owner-operator in the transportation industry. He and his wife, Brandy, have three children and make their home in Jackson.
