Hills-Beaver Creek advances to state Class A boys basketball semifinals

Hills-Beaver Creek is moving on to the state Class A boys basketball tournament semifinals.
The Patriots will take on undefeated and top-seeded Henning at noon Friday after defeating Southland 72-69 on Thursday afternoon in a quarterfinal matchup at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Fifth-seeded H-BC, which improved to 28-3 on the season and snapped fourth-seeded Southland's 23-game winning streak, got 24 points from Brodie Metzger and 21 points and 10 rebounds from Jamin Metzger. The Patriots and Rebels were tied at 37 at halftime before Hills-Beaver Creek built a lead of 11 points, then hung on.
Micah Bush contributed eight points and nine rebounds for H-BC and Karson Metzger had nine points. Besides the Patriots facing Henning, the other Class A semifinal has Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton meeting Red Lake County at 2 p.m. Friday. Both semifinals, as well as the 11 a.m. Saturday championship game, will be at Williams Arena.

In a Class 2A state boys hoops consolation game Friday, Jackson County Central led by 13 at halftime and went on to beat Perham 69-55 at Concordia University.
Roman Voss had 19 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Huskies, and Blaise Rowe and Weston Rowe each chipped in 12 points apiece. JCC will play in the consolation title game at 2 p.m. Friday at Concordia.
