Local blood supplies are at a critically low status, as many people are seeking medical care after the lifting of restrictions following the COVID-19 shutdown.

Versteeg added that there have been times during the past six weeks in which there have been extreme concerns about meeting blood supply demand. He noted that at this point, Community Blood Bank is using 18% to 30% more blood week than prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donors must be at least 17 (16 with a signed parent consent form found at, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health. Donors exhibiting cold or flu symptoms are unable to donate. A valid identification is required at the time of registration.
