Heavy rains hit region in Tuesday storm

Portions of the region were cleaning up following strong thunderstorms Tuesday.

Multiple trees were down across Sheldon, Iowa, as well as some power lines. There were also reports from Hartley, Iowa of trees being brought down across roads and flag poles being broken. Measured winds of 79 mph were recorded at a personal weather station near Hartley, according to the National Weather Service. There was also a report of wind damage to the grain elevator in Beaver Creek.

The most common product of Tuesday’s storms was heavy rain with some instances of flash flooding. Reports of precipitation in the area ranged from 4 inches of rain four miles north of Worthington, 4 inches in Adrian, 2.97 inches at Worthington Airport, 2.9 inches in Fulda, 2.1 inches near Brewster, 1.5 inches in the Homewood Hills section of Worthington and 1 inch in Bigelow.
