The Minnesota West Lady Jays shook off a sluggish first quarter and went on to cruise past Ellsworth Community College 99-43 on Saturday during the Minnesota West Thanksgiving Classic.
The Lady Jays, who improved to 7-1 on the season, led by just 18-16 after the first 10 minutes, but still managed to grab a 45-27 halftime advantage. Olivia Hayenga lit up the scoreboard for 32 points on 15-of-18 shooting, with several of her buckets coming as a direct result of her six steals.
Also scoring in double figures for Minnesota West was Tia Murray, who had 15 points; Madisyn Huisman, who had 13; and Dannyn Peterson with 11. Murray had a game-best 12 rebounds. Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor led all players with nine assists.

In the men’s game that followed, Ellsworth Community College grabbed an early huge and coasted to a 111-48 rout of Minnesota West. The Bluejays, now 2-5, shot just 23 percent from the field and were outrebounded 71-36.
Elijah Williams was the lone Minnesota West player to score in double figures, as he had 12 points. Two players – Dominic Drent and Vance Hayenga-Johnson – added six points each.

Sibley-Ocheyedan outscored Worthington 23-4 in the opening quarter and held off a furious late Worthington rally to emerge with a 65-55 victory in an afternoon high school girls basketball game at the Minnesota West Thanksgiving Classic.
The state-ranked Generals, now 2-0, led 42-18 at halftime and 57-32 entering the final quarter, but the Trojans – playing their first game of the season – closed the gap to within eight points with just about a minute to go.
It was Marissa Ackerman leading a balanced S-O scoring attack with 16 points. Madison Brouwer had 15, Zoe Ackerman 11 and Keytin Elser 10. Brouwer also had a game-high nine rebounds for the Generals.
Tarren Spartz had 19 points and seven rebounds to pace Worthington. Ellie Weg had 15 points and six rebounds, and Madison Beckmann had 11 points and six boards.
