Worthington received five inches of new snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to statistics recorded at 7 a.m. by the city's wastewater treatment plant.
The newest snowfall brought the cumulative snow total for January to 16 inches, well above the average to-date total of 5.9 inches.
Some communities on Thursday morning reported more than snow than Worthington, particularly to the south. Six inches of snow was reported in Rock Rapids, and eight inches in George. Multiple schools across southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa had e-learning days or canceled classes entirely.
Weather conditions in the region are expected to be dry through the weekend, with highs in the low to mid 20s. Winds are expected to diminish to 10 to 15 mph Friday.
