Filing period for District 518, other offices to begin Aug. 2

The period of filing affidavits for candidacy for the office of Worthington Independent School District 518 school board member will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and close at 5 p.m. Aug. 16.

Affidavits of candidacy are available from the school district clerk at the District 518 office at 117 11th Ave., Worthington. Filing fee is $2. A candidate for the office must be an eligible voter, 21 years of age or more on assuming office, be a resident of District 518 for at least 30 days before the general election and have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same general election.

The general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8. At the election, three members will be elected to the school board for terms of four years each.

One other Nobles County school district with board positions up in November will be Ellsworth Public School, with three seats to be open.

Additionally, Aug. 2-16 is the filing period for individuals to file affidavits of candidacy for city and township offices in the state of Minnesota. In Worthington, individuals will have the opportunity to be candidates for mayor, 1st Ward City Council Member and 2nd Ward City Council Member. Mayor Mike Kuhle has already announced he will not seek a new term. The council seats up for election in November are currently held by Larry Jansen and Alaina Kolpin.
