FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) teams will begin canvassing neighborhoods in Worthington starting at 9 a.m. Thursday. The teams plan on stopping at every residence in Worthington that may have been affected by the June flooding. They may be canvasing in the other cities in the county this weekend or next week, so residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for these DSA teams.
The teams are being sent out to help people with individual assistance by answering questions, helping people sign up for individual assistance, and helping with any unmet needs people may still be experiencing such cleaning assistance.
There will be bilingual FEMA staff available to assist some non-English speaking citizens.
The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be in Nobles County at the JBS Field House, located at 700 Second Ave. in Worthington, starting Aug. 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. The DRC centers can register people for assistance, give updates about their case and help upload documents FEMA has requested into their case.
If you have applied and were denied Individual assistance -- or have additional expenses that were not figured into your application -- the Disaster Recovery Center can begin an appeal on your behalf.
The deadline for registration for individual assistance is Sept. 27. Don't wait for an extension or until the last minute -- talk to the DSA team, Visit the upcoming Disaster Recovery Center at the JBS Fieldhouse or register online, through the phone or through the FEMA app.
