Federated presents Operation Round Up funding to 29 area organizations

The Federated Rural Electric Trust, Jackson, recently recognized local organizations receiving a total of $19,092 through Operation Round Up. These donations occur due to monthly contributions by participating Federated members.


Twenty-nine groups received money in this 63rd round of funding. They include:


Heron Landers 4-H Club, $150 for fabric to make quilts for homeless shelter and foster kids; Grace Lutheran Quilters, Worthington, $150 for quilt batting to make 25 quilts for people in accident or illness; Heron Lake-Okabena Elementary, $200 for positive behavior reward/incentives; Huskies Baseball 11U, $250 toward balls and bat; H-LO Agriculture Department, $250 toward locking charging stations for computers; Heritage Acres, Fairmont, $300 toward blacksmith for August Threshing Day; Rhythm of the River, Jackson $432 to create kids’ bags with activities and musical instruments; Fairmont Area Human Rights Organization, $500 toward Disability Awareness Day expenses at the Martin County Fair; Jackson County Central Middle School, $500 for life skills equipment for disabilities’ student class.


Heron Lake-Okabena Prom, $500 for prom DJ and post-prom activities; JCC Post Prom, $500 toward post prom; Fairmont Post Prom/Youth First, $500 toward event activities and prizes; JCC Agriculture Department, $500 for flowers for the student-created bouquets in floriculture class; JCC Schools Speech/Language Therapy, $500 for speech assessment materials to ID/monitor students’ progress; Fairmont Girls Basketball Association, $500 toward scholarships for camps and travel teams; SWWC Foundation for Innovation in Education, Marshall, $500 toward fees for students in knowledge bowl, writing and spelling bee; JCC Earth & Space Science, $530 for Sunspotter Keplerian telescope for ninth-grade classroom.


Lakefield Aquatic Center, $600 to replace outdated/worn safety signs at the pool; JCC Anatomy Physiology Class, $600 toward transportation costs to visit SDSU Cadaver Lab; JCC Science Class, $630 for digital microscope for students with visual impairment/disabilities; Jackson Fire & Relief Association, $1,000 toward electric vehicle fire blanket to fight this type of fire; Jackson County Library System, $1,000 for Zoo Man summer reading at three county libraries; Jackson Food Shelf, $1,000 to buy food to meet the increased demand; Jackson County Conservation League, $1,000 to help stock panfish in select Jackson County lakes; Rebuilding Together Minnesota, $1,000 toward accessibility ramps for Jackson County low-income homes; Sherburn Lions, $1,000 for accessibility ramps for Sherburn homes; Alpha Fire Department, $1,500 toward two new pagers for new members in the department; Minnesota Valley Action Council, $1,500 for income-eligible energy assistance funds for Federated members; Salvation Army, $1,500 of income-eligible energy assistance funds for Federated members.


The trust board received 35 applications totaling $74,976 in this 63rd round of funding.
