Federated Rural Electric, Jackson, recently presented a donation totaling $7,500 to three local fire departments: Windom, Fairmont and Truman.
Federated took advantage of matching funds from two organizations to triple the impact. Said Federated General Manager Scott Reimer: “Federated donated $2,500, then secured matching funds from CoBank’s Sharing Success Program and Basin Electric Cooperative. Cooperatives are concerned about their local communities; we saw this as a way to help each fire department with costly equipment needs. This is the fourth year of helping our local fire departments; we rotated this donation yearly until we’ve helped all the fire departments in our service area.”
CoBank is one entity that provides Federated long-term financing for line construction projects, while Basin Electric is one of Federated’s wholesale power providers.
The Windom Fire Department will buy turnout gear, which protects a firefighter from the heat and smoke with the coat and pants. The $7,500 donation will cover the costs of the gear for two of five new crew members.

The Windom Fire Department accepts their $7,500, which will go toward purchasing turnout gear for new firefighters. Federated General Manager Scott Reimer and Director Glenn Dicks presented the donations.
