Fatal crash on Minnesota 60 results in death of Butterfield man

One person died Saturday and another sustained a life-threatening injury as the result of a crash on Minnesota 60.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2024 Ford Bronco sport operated by Wayne Gary Hanson, 83, of Butterfield was southbound on 660th Avenue in Watonwan County's Butterfield Township and a 2023 Peterbilt operated by Richard Leo Sanow, 43, of Marshall was westbound on Minnesota 60 when the vehicles collided in the intersection. The crash was reported at 10:52 a.m. Saturday.
Hanson died at the scene of the crash. A passenger, Zelda Carol Hanson, 83, of Butterfield, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System-St. James. Sanow was unhurt. The Butterfield Fire Department, Watonwan County Sheriff's Office, St. James Police Department and the Mayo Clinic Health System-St. James Ambulance assisted at the scene.
