Diesel fuel spills following Lyon County tanker crash

The Southwest Minnesota Chemical Assessment Team was called to the scene of a tanker crash on Minnesota 68 on Monday. It was estimated that about 50 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled in the crash.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2017 Volvo semi driven by Douglas Lee Hansen, 67, of Canby, was traveling northwest when the truck went into the roadside ditch and overturned on its side. The crash was reported at 10:30 a.m. in Eidsvold Township, Lyon County.


Hansen was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. A cleanup crew worked to contain the diesel in the ditch, and the tanker was offloaded. There were no waterways near the ditch, he said.


The Taunton and Minneota Fire Departments, the Chemical Assessment Team, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office all asssited at the scene.
