The Worthington Cubs traveled to Milroy on Wednesday night and were dealt an 11-4 defeat in amateur baseball game. Will Brander had a solid outing on the mound, going six innings and surrendering just two earned runs. The Cubs will play their next game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 when they host Heron Lake.
In other games around the region Wednesday, it was: Luverne 9, Windom 6; and Hadley 3, Ruthton 0. There was one game on Tuesday: Jackson edged Mountain Lake 3-2.
The current Gopher League standings have Luverne alone in first place with an unblemished 8-0 record. Milroy is in second at 7-2 and Hadley third at 4-3. Worthington is now fourth with a mark of 3-7, while Pipestone and Ruthton are both 1-5.
In the First Nite League, Jackson is 7-2 and sits just a half-game in front of 6-2 Fairmont. Windom and Lakefield each have a record of 5-4, while Heron Lake is 2-6. Fox Lake is 2-7 on the season and Mountain Lake is 1-5.

At the state Class AA baseball tournament on Wednesday in St. Cloud, Fairmont was edged by Perham 3-2 in a semifinal game. The Cardinals did bounce back, however, and topped Cannon Falls 8-6 in the third-place game. Each of the state high school championship games are scheduled to be played today.
