Council approves city license agreement for East Okabena Trail

The Worthington City Council, during a special meeting Wednesday that was primarily devoted to discussion of potential ice facility funding, unanimously approved a license agreement with Minnesota Energy Resources Corp. for East Okabena Trail.

Terms of the agreement include the city being granted a temporary, non-exclusive license to construct, maintain and use the property as a public recreational trail for non-motorized activities such as hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. The agreement is for an initial term of 25 years, continuing year-to-year thereafter, with either party having the right to terminate with 90 days' notice.

No base rent is required during the term. Construction must start within one year and be completed within a year after it begins. The city is responsible for all maintenance, signage, erosion control and safety measures.
