Community blood drive is Dec. 12 in Adrian

Sanford Health Adrian Clinic and Community Blood Bank will host a community blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12 at the Adrian EMS Building.

The need is high and residents are asked to consider donating blood to support the local blood supply to avoid a critical blood shortage during the holidays. Donors can schedule their donation by logging into www.cbblifeblood.org, select “events”, December 12th, Adrian, and clicking on the scheduling link or call 605-331-3222. All who donate receive a $10 Subway gift card.

“As we move into early winter, it continues to be important to have residents step up to support the local blood supply," said Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank, "Each day, Community Blood Bank uses 110 donations of blood. This can only be provided by local volunteers coming forward to roll-up their sleeves.

“We are just holding our own when it comes to the local blood supply," Versteeg added. "We are slightly above the 'critical' appeal status, barely meeting the demand for blood. Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in northwestern Iowa, southeastern South Dakota, and southwestern Minnesota. Giving blood is a short process that will change a patient’s outlook quickly. A person can donate blood every 56 days. This is a terrific way to help save someone in your community and to ready local supplies for situations requiring blood transfusions immediately."

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an I.D. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating.

For additional information call Community Blood Bank at (605) 331-3222.
