City public works projects, grant for Jimmy John's on council agenda

Among the items of business on the agenda for Monday's Worthington City Council meeting is the awarding of a contract for rehabilitation of the Tower Street storm lift station.

The bid opening for the project took place Wednesday afternoon. One bid was received; it was submitted by Construction Manager LLC in the amount of $461,898. That total is approximately seven percent below the engineer’s estimate for the work.

Also on the agenda is the council's receiving of a report and ordering of a required improvement hearing for the planned Third Avenue Street Reconstruction project from 11th Street to 13th Street. The proposed improvements involve road base, regrading, curb and gutter, sidewalks, concrete driveways, permanent pavement, water main, sanitary main, storm sewer main and sanitary services.

Assessment will not commence until the full scope of work is completed. The reports provide comprehensive information on the proposed improvements, including costs, funding and estimated assessment rates.

Council members are also slated to consider providing $50,000 in grant money from TIF District 7 funds that were allocated to a temporary spending plan to assist Jimmy John's with necessary interior renovation at its future home, which will be inside a portion of the Cenex convenience store at 1710 Humiston Ave. The

renovations will include food preparation areas, an order counter, seating, a drive-thru and storage, and will cost an estimated $275,000.

The grant would be structured as a reimbursement upon completion of the project and subject to a grant agreement.
